Welcome Message

Supporting each other, we grow stronger.

“Supporting each other, we grow stronger”—our homepage tagline perfectly sums up the spirit of our final 2024-2025 school year meeting.

Within this network, we support each other through various initiatives: whether it’s sharing impactful Indigenous programming like the Mikon project, assisting with the launch of new Vocational Training cohorts in areas like Carpentry, Professional Cooking, and Pet Grooming, or ensuring that community-based teachings are integrated into existing programs to offer learners credits in ways that are both meaningful and culturally safe.

If you missed the last meeting, you can see the agenda and summary here.

This poster is our gift to you this month.

The poster is part of a growing series of small posters to honour teachers & learning. Here is a folder of the images with and without the IAEN logo.

Feel free to use them and add your own logo if you like. (To add your logo or make changes, make a copy of the file called ‘_copy to modify teacher appreciation des enseignants.’) Here is a video that shows how to do that.

The images used are all from pixabay.com, unless otherwise noted, and are in the public domain.

This month’s poster includes the network’s slogan, “Supporting each other, we grow stronger,” and an image of trees clustered together in what looks like a hug. The picture was taken by Tracy Rosen, near the river on Nun’s Island in Montreal.

Mikon Project

The community of Opitciwan has been developing a program for the past few years called Mikon, which means feather in Atikamekw. It’s a wonderful program focusing on supporting young adults in many ways as they find their paths forwards. Find out more about Mikon here!

RAC

RAC = Recognition of Acquired Competencies

There has been a lot of talk about the RAC process this year! We’ve put together some information – including some definitions, presentations and promotional material – on our new network RAC page. Read it here!

Pet Grooming Curriculum Guide

This curriculum guide for STC 4743 (Pet Grooming) was developed at the Elawsimgewei Gina’muo’guom in Listuguj. Thank you for sharing it with the network!

It contains everything you need to teach this program and includes an Etuaptmumk or a Two Eyed Seeing approach to learning. Explore the Pet Grooming Curriculum Guide here.

Good News Stories!

So many good things happen across the Indigenous Adult Education Network! We are reviving the Network’s Good News Stories from two years ago and are looking forward to sharing more in the next school year. We have three to share with you this month.
