Building AI Literacy

How can we expect to know how to use Artificial Intelligence with confidence if we haven’t gone through the process of learning about it? This is as much true for teachers as it is for learners.
There are SO many charts and frameworks and documents and infographics around AI that no wonder many in classrooms are simply prone to banish it from between their walls. It’s become this “thing” that everyone “should” know about and use but all of the information available about it can be overwhelming.

This AI literacy model breaks it down into 4 parts and then offers a few concrete resources per part. It may help to guide teachers as they learn more about using AI when teaching and learning. Here is an article about why and how it was developed.

Teacher-made Resources
AI in Education Posters
SJ Jessica Lee, Math & Science Specialist at the First Nations Regional Adult Education Centre in Kahnawake, recently started talking about AI with her students. Her focus is on being transparent about its use and she does this by modeling effective learning with AI.
She created a Dos and Don’ts poster for her students – one version in school-learning language and another using some Gen Alpha slang. We’ve translated it into French and a more informal Quebecois, too.
The pages can be printed out on legal size paper, 8.5″x14″.
You can see and download all four versions of the poster here.
