Accompaniment tool for teaching First Nations and Inuit students enrolled in vocational training is a new document (2025) for teachers to better understand strategies that can help First Nations and Inuit students in vocational training in Quebec to persevere and succeed in their studies.
It was published by the Institut national des mines (INMQ) and Dr. Emilie Deschênes, Ph. D., consultant in Indigenous education and education management in Indigenous contexts.
It was developed via a research project on vocational training in programs of study leading to a trade in the mining sector for First Nations and Inuit students. The strategies can certainly be extended to all programs of study.

The document is organized around three sections:
- knowledge of risk & vulnerability factors, and of protection & success factor associated with student perseverance.
- Strategies promoting the perseverance of VT students.
- Reflection tools to orient the implementation of practices and strategies.
The tool was created in collaboration and partnership with people we know well from our network! Namely,
- Susane King, Anishinabe manager, Timiskaming First Nation (& Training Coordinator, FNAESC)
- Gilles Larouche, Director, Centre régional d’éducation des adultes (CRÉA) Mitshapeu
